American-born, Brussels-based choreographer Meg Stuart has received the Montreal dance community’s 2014 Grand Prix de la Danse.
The $15,000 prize recognizes her two decades of avant-garde creations.
“Dance should disturb, show inner conflicts and push boundaries,” Stuart said at the awards ceremony at Place des Arts on Wednesday.
The $10,000 Prix de la Danse for best choreography in Montreal during 2013-14 went to Benoît Lachambre for Prismes.
The five-member jury gave a new $10,000 award for best interpretation to Carol Prieur, longtime dancer for Compagnie Marie Chouinard.
The Prix de la Danse were first awarded in 2011.
